DOH postpones Covid-19 special vax days in Luzon due to 'Karding'

The Department of Health (DOH) postponed the supposed launch of Covid-19 special vaccination days called "PinasLakas Bakunahang Bayan" in Luzon on Monday, Sept. 26, due to Super Typhoon Karding.

"Due to inclement weather brought about by Super Typhoon 'Karding,' the PinasLakas Bakunahang Bayan launch scheduled tomorrow, Sept. 26, 2022, is hereby suspended in the National Capital Region and the rest of Luzon, indefinitely," the DOH said in a memorandum released on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 25.

"PinasLakas Bakunahang Bayan launches in other regions not covered by this order may proceed as scheduled upon the discretion of concerned executive committee members and regional directors," it added.

To note, the DOH is targeting to vaccinate by Oct. 8—which is the 100th day of the Marcos administration— 30 percent of those who are already eligible to receive the first booster shot.

The target was previously set at 50 percent but “due to the pace” at which the booster vaccination is going, the DOH adjusted the target, lowering it to 30 percent.

A total of 18.8 million individuals have already received their first booster shot or 24 percent of the eligible population as of Sept. 20.

DOH operations

On the other hand, work in the DOH on Monday will continue "pending an official announcement" from Malacanang.

"In the event of an official suspension of work from the Office of the President, all offices/units whose functions involve the delivery of emergency services/ response, and/or performance of other vital services are expected to continue rendering services," the DOH said.

"Moreover, all executive committee members are hereby directed to remain in their assigned areas to monitor disaster preparedness and response activities, as well as monitor the status of all employees within their respective teams," it added.
