College student, driver yield P17.2-M marijuana in Kalinga


LUBUAGAN, Kalinga – Police seized marijuana valued at P17.2 million from two men in a checkpoint in Sitio Dinakan, Barangay Dangoy here on Saturday, Sept. 24.

In a report to Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar, Police Regional Office-Cordillera chief, Col. Charles Domallig, Kalinga Provincial Police Office director, said intelligence officers of the Kalinga PPO received information that a red car is transporting marijuana from here to Manila via Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Domallig said joint police personnel intercepted the vehicle with two men on board at around 11:25 p.m. and an inspection was conducted.

The car yielded marijuana bricks weighing 138 kilos valued at P16.5 million and six tubular marijuana dried leaves and stalks with a total weight of six kilos and worth P720,000.

Suspects were identified as Richard Ilagan dela Cruz, 24, college student, of Barangay 185, Caloocan City, and Dario Orpanel Gadingan, 44, driver, of Barangay Malaria, Caloocan City.

Police said suspects face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Domallig cited the operating policemen for their accomplishment.
