“This is an assurance that the metro will have a voice in the entire Asia-Pacific region. Uswag, Iloilo,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas, who represented this city during the 9th CityNet Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Treñas is optimistic that being a member of the executive board can bring honor and pride to Ilonggos as well as an avenue to push this city’s development initiatives and its social programs for livability.

During the Sept. 20 to 23 Congress, Treñas shared his administration’s program on welfare, health and sanitation, education, environmental management, livelihood, and sustainability or WHEELS.

Treñas cited the housing program of the city government with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD). Iloilo City needs at present at least 16,000 more housing units to resettle illegal settlers and the landless.

Treñas invited mayors and officials of key cities in the Asia-Pacific to visit Iloilo City.
