The Diocese of Imus has expressed concern over the seabed quarrying in Cavite as it warned against its destructive effect on marine life in the area.
Imus Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista said they are creating public awareness on the environmental effects of seabed quarrying.
“We have released a video in all the parishes which is shown before the holy mass to help create awareness on the dangerous effects of seabed quarrying. The diocese hopes to do its share in environmental preservation,” the bishop said over Radio Veritas.
“All the members of the clergy of the Diocese of Imus are united to stop the seabed quarrying in Cavite. We are in the process of educating the residents on its negative effects and its consequences particularly to communities that rely on the sea for their livelihood,” the Church leader added.
A signature campaign against the project will also be conducted by the diocese, the bishop said.
The seabed quarrying project will affect more than 8,000 hectares of seabed in the towns of Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Naic, and Ternate in Cavite.
