“I never expected this to happen,” Bares said of her appointment. “Unexpectedly as it has been, I sincerely accept this responsibility, but I cannot do this alone.”

Bares urged all employees to work together to regain the region's outstanding performance in the previous years.

“If we are living with a purpose, hard work is not an option, it is a necessity. Kailangan nating magtrabaho ng doble, triple (We need to work double, triple),” Bares said.

Also appointed to top positions in the DA-RFO I were Dr. Evelyn Fernando, regional technical director for research and regulations, and Doris Joy Garcia, officer-in-charge, regional technical director for operations.

Fernando served for one year as assistant director for administration and finance at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM).
