‘Bridgerton’ star Jonathan Bailey to play Fiyero in ‘Wicked’ films

He joins Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the two-part movie adaptation

The movie adaptation of the musical production “Wicked” has found its Fiyero. Get ready to dance through life with actor Jonathan Bailey as he is set to portray Fiyero Tiggular.

On Sept. 21, director Jon M. Chu confirmed his casting through a tweet saying, “He’s perfect, they’re perfect. They’d be perfect together. Born to be forever….. I am too excited to pretend this hasn’t been happening. We have a Fiyero!!!!”

While Jonathan is known for playing Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix series “Bridgerton,” the 34-year-old English actor has also graced the stage with his works in West End productions of “Les Miserables,” “The York Realist,” and “Cock,” to name a few. In 2019, he took home the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his performance in Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” musical.

“Wicked” movie adaptation also features Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who will be portraying Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch.

“Wicked” is a musical adaptation of the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire. It retells the story of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” through the eyes of its antagonist, the Wicked Witch. Exploring the time before Dorothy and Toto make their appearance in Oz, the musical brings the tale of two young ladies—Elphaba the green-skinned and smart, and Glinda the beautiful and popular—and their unlikely friendship before one was dubbed the “good” and the other the “wicked.”

“Wicked” film adaptation will be split into two movies, which are set to be released on Dec. 25 of 2024 and 2025.
