Mayor Abby urges street vendors to become micro-entrepreneurs, avail of Makati's Jolly Carts

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay called on street vendors in the city to avail of the city government's "Ate Maki's Jolly Carts" to help them earn more and become micro-entrepreneurs amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Binay said that for the months of March and June, the city government has already distributed 91 mobile food carts to vendors who have registered for the program.

The local government unit (LGU) said the city has a three-year lease-to-own agreement with the vendors for the free use of the city-provided pedicart units. In turn, the vendors have agreed to pay P20 per day for three consecutive years.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the vendor and the city also determines the items allowed for sale as well as the days, time, and location where they can sell their products. This ensures healthy and fair competition among the sellers as well as making sure that they will only set up their food carts in areas designated by the LGU.

Binay noted that since they are licensed vendors and their carts are registered jolly carts, they will no longer be afraid of being caught selling in areas where vending is not allowed.

She added that vendors must regularly renew their permits to operate, as well as their health and sanitation permits to make sure that all their products are safe and of good quality.

Vendors who wish to avail of their own jolly cart may proceed to the Makati Economic Enterprise Management Office.
