Kagawad arrested after search of home in Cagayan yields illegal drugs

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Authorities arrested a barangay councilor or kagawad after a search of his home in Zone 2, Molave St., Barangay Capatan, here yielded illegal drugs on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The suspect, Marlon Corpuz, 49, a high-value target-elected official and kagawad of Barangay Capatan, yielded five heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing one gram with an estimated market value of P6,800 and transparent plastic sachet containing dried leaves with fruiting tops and stalks suspected to be marijuana weighing 10 grams worth P1,200.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Region 2-Cagayan Provincial Office and the City Drug Enforcement Unit implemented the search warrant at about 8:51 p.m. issued by the Regional Trial Court, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.

PDEA said suspect was under surveillance for almost a month prior to his arrest and that his patrons are residents here.
