3 NPA rebels killed in Quezon gunbattle

GENERAL NAKAR, Quezon – Three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in encounter in Sitio Lagmar, Barangay Pagsangahan, here on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Troops from the 22nd Division Reconnaissance Company were conducting a focus military operation when they chanced upon an undetermined number of NPA rebels under the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) Narciso and Executive Committee of the Sub-Regional Military Area-4A (SRMA-4A) led by alias “Yayo” and alias “Luis” at 11:40 a.m.

A brief gunbattle ensued in which three NPA rebels were killed and their comrades escaping to a forested area in Sitio Lagmar.

Recovered at the encounter site were two M16 Armalite rifles, one R4 carbine, and an M203 grenade launcher.

The military is identifying the fatalities while the Scene-of-the-Crime Operatives (SOCO) is processing their bodies.

Local police and the Army have set up checkpoint and blocking forces against the communist guerrillas in Barangay Anoling here. Coordination has also been made with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion and Quezon 1st Mobile Force Company to apprehend the fleeing NPA.
