The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the 3.9 kilometer concrete road in Ilocos Norte, which it said, may bring more tourists and bolster economic resiliency to the province and neighboring areas.

DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said the construction of the 3.9-kilometer Sta. Maria – Datag – Arapang – San Isidro Barangay Road in Barangay Kalaw, Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte will facilitate safer and faster access to local tourist spots such as Bolo River Dam, Ar-aroo Picnic Grove, and the Darna Falls.

“We are also optimistic that this new road will bolster additional livelihood services and improve the mobility of goods and services,” said Tan.

According to DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineer Glenn C. Miguel, the concrete road has reduced travel time to at least 70 percent.

The project involved concreting of a two-lane road amounting to P96.5 million funded under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
