NPO targets to print 3M BSKE ballots daily

With over 91 million ballots set to be printed for the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the National Printing Office (NPO) is targeting to print an average of three million ballots daily.

"The NPO has committed all its personnel and all its available machines so they can complete at least three million ballots per day," Comelec Chairman George Garcia said in a press briefing after the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with the NPO in Quezon City, Tuesday, Sept. 20.

"On the average of three million a day, then that's 90 million ballots in one month. The verification process will take about five days. The ballots are just short so this is doable," he added.

"We are expecting that by the second week of November, we will be able to start shipping all the ballots and election paraphernalia," said Garcia.

The poll chief already said that they'll continue preparing for the exercise as there is still no law postponing the Dec. 5, 2022 BSKE.

Garcia also said that in the event that the BSKE is postponed, the printed ballots will not go to waste as it can still be used in the next elections.

There are several bills in Congress seeking to postpone the BSKE polls to next year.

The Comelec is set to start the printing of the BSKE ballots this week.
