NBI consultant nabbed for robbery, extortion

A consultant of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and his alleged cohort were arrested by the Southern Police District (SPD) for robbery, extortion, and obstruction of justice following a rescue operation on two foreigners who were illegally detained in a building in Pasig City.

In an press briefing held on Monday, Sept. 19, SPD District Director Col. Kirby John Brion Kraft presented the two suspects, identified as Larry Marbid, 48, an NBI consultant, and Laurence Delos Tria, 39, a driver.

The police said the two suspects were nabbed during an entrapment operation against Marbid for robbery extortion beside a fast-food chain located along Gil Puyat corner Taft Avenue, Pasay City at around 8:30 p.m of Sept. 18.

Upon receiving the marked money in exchange for the release of the two Chinese nationals rescued by the NBI during their operation last Sept. 16 at a BPO building in Pasig City, Marbid was immediately apprehended by the operatives.

Delos Tria intervened and tried to prevent Marbid's arrest forcing the police to take him into custody as well for obstruction of justice.

Recovered in the operation were P3,000 cash, the P247,000 boodle money, and one motorcycle.

“We are still investigating. We have to validate kung sino talaga itong tao na ito (Marbid). Despite na may nakuha tayong NBI link sa kanya but that is still subject for validation (We have to validate as to who really is Marbid. Despite receiving an NBI link to him, it is still subject for validation)," Kirby said.
