iPhone 14 Pro Max first impressions

It has been the tradition of MB Technews to share our tech finds for content with blogger and vlogger friends. This year, we are sharing one of the country's first iPhone 14 Pro Max units with them.

The new iPhone Pro Max, iPhone Pro, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 14 officially went on sale over the weekend. I have not used an iPhone for a long time, so when I was informed that we would have the latest iPhone on day one of the release, I immediately agreed and decided to write this first impression.

To know your iPhone variant, check the model number by going to Settings > General > About. To the right of the Model, you'll see the part number. To know the model number, tap the part number. Both the model number and part number could identify what kind of iPhone you have.

This arrived on Saturday but I got the chance to open it today (Sunday). The MB Tech News got the 14 Pro Max variant with dual nano-SIM from our third-party source in Hong kong.

The model number will tell you if what you have is an iPhone Pro Max (A2651, A2893, A2896, A2895, A2894 ), iPhone 14 Pro (A2659, A2889, A2892, A2891, A2890), iPhone 14 Plus (A2632, A2885, A2888, A2887, A2886), or iPhone 14 (A2649, A2881, A2884, A2883, A2882)

The model number and part number are basically the same, but looking at the part number in your iPhone's "About" section will give you more details about the device. The numbers and letters represent information that will help you when you need to repair, replace or refurbish your iPhone. The part number will give you information about the technical parameters of the device, the country of origin, and whether the device is new or refurbished.

The MB Technews team got the iPhone 14 Pro Max from Hongkong with dual nano-SIM support. The iPhone 14 series have three variants when it comes to SIM support.

1) In the US, the new iPhone 14 lineup will come only with an eSIM, a digitally embedded SIM on the device. There is no physical SIM card to activate the US version; instead, the telco can remotely provision it so that it can connect to its network. Apple said You could install eight or more eSIMs on an iPhone and use two phone numbers simultaneously.

2) China and Hong kong variant will have dual-Nano SIM support.

3) If you order your new iPhone 14 outside the US, including the Philippines, you will get a device with either dual SIM support, one nano-SIM, and one eSIM or dual eSIM support.

We got information from our third-party source that dual-Nano SIM has a higher price than other variants as it is more in demand.

Here's something unique to the iPhone 14 series, they're the first Apple product that supports satellite connectivity. Apple said the satellite communication feature is for emergency SOS messages and will not replace regular cellular connectivity. With iPhone 14 models, you can use Emergency SOS via satellite to text emergency services when you're out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage, a life-saving add-on in emergencies. This feature will be exclusive to US and Canada iPhone 14 users at the launch in November. There are reports, however, that Apple will announce additional countries that will have the emergency SOS via satellite later this year.

One of the main reasons why I regularly upgrade to a new phone is the camera. Compared to its older sibling with a 12MP camera system, the camera of the 14 Pro Max is better because of its 48MP sensor. I talked to an iPhone fanatic who gets his iPhone on the first day of its availability, and he told me that while he got his iPhone 14 Pro Max already, he is not as excited as before. Yes, the 14 Pro Max has a great camera and features, but his 13 Pro Max could do most of the features the 14 Pro Max could do. But even with this, he still got the iPhone 14 Pro Max because of what a 48MP sensor could do, including the capability to capture a full 48MP photo.

The display of the 14 Pro Max looks the same as the 13 Pro Max. Yes, there is a tiny difference, but you cannot recognize it immediately, even if you directly compare the two. The new dynamic island that replaced the notch will catch the users' attention, though. It's the pill-shaped outline at the front that could show notifications and other events. What's impressive is that this dynamic island could also act as a status bar when needed.

The new iPhone 14 Pro Max now supports an always-on display, a feature that Android devices have used for years.

This is just a quick first impression, and I still need to explore many iPhone 14 Pro Max features, but if I were asked to summarize my experience with the new iPhone 14 Pro Max, I could do it in one word -- impressive. I highly recommend this to first-time iPhone users and those who will upgrade from the iPhone 13 series.
