Abandoned narra flitch valued at P60,000 recovered in Kalinga


BALBALAN, Kalinga – The local Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the police recovered an abandoned narra flitch in Sitio Umbali, Barangay Buaya, here on Friday, Sept. 16.

The narra flitch measuring four inches by 39 inches by 10 feet was taken to CENRO Pinukpuk, Kalinga for safekeeping and proper disposition. It has a total volume of 130 board feet and valued at P60,000.

Narra is a critically endangered tree species and its collection and trading are prohibited under Department of Environment and Natural Resources Administrative Order 2007-01 entitled "Establishing the List of Threatened Philippine National Plants and Their Categories, and the List of other Wildlife Species" unless it is covered by a permit from the agency.
