PH detects over 2,000 new Covid-19 cases

A total of 2,275 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Based on its latest bulletin, there are currently 26,271 active cases nationwide.

Metro Manila still recorded the most number of cases in the past two weeks with 10,073, followed by Calabarzon with 3,666, Central Luzon with 2,185, Davao region with 1,189, and Western Visayas with 957.

In a separate report, the DOH said that Metro Manila has shown a "slight uptick in cases in the recent days."

New coronavirus cases in Mindanao are "on a plateau since mid-August, while the remaining areas at a slow downward trend."

"For maximum protection against Covid-19, let us continue to practice our minimum public health standards for a faster and steadier march towards the new normal," the DOH said.

Despite the optional use of face masks outdoors, the DOH still encouraged the public to wear the said protective equipment.

"By choosing to wear our masks, we do not only protect ourselves but as well as the community around us. The choice to be safe is ours to make," it added.

Eligible Filipinos were also urged to complete their Covid-19 vaccination.

"A strengthened wall of protection can be achieved by getting your jab and boosters," the DOH said.

To note, the Philippines' Covid-19 caseload stood at 3,918,329, of which, 3,829,544 were recoveries, and 62,514 deaths.
