Pasay to mark World Rabies Day with pet vaccination, ‘Pawshion Show’

The local government of Pasay City is calling on pet lovers in the city to join the celebration of World Rabies Day on Sept. 28.

Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the World Rabies Day now on 16th year was organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and being celebrated every Sept. 28 of the year to raise awareness and advocate for rabies elimination globally.

In line with this year’s celebration with the theme “Rabies: One Health, Zero Death,” the City Veterinary Office (CVO) will conduct free vaccination for 50 dogs at SM Mall of Asia (MOA) from 12:00 noon up to 4:00 p.m.

Rubiano said they will also hold the Pawshion Show 2022 for dogs, aged three months old and above, and their fur parents.

The mayor said only one pet dog per fur parent will be allowed to join the Pawshion Show.

Rubiano said residents who are interested to join the event must register the name of dog owner, address, mobile number, email address; name of dog and its age, color and breed; record of vaccination, and short description of the dog costume.

She advised the participants to send a message via text at 0969- 048-1354, which will be entertained until 5:00 p.m. of Sept. 23.

The mayor also said that dogs should be on leash and come with their handlers. Pregnant, breast-feeding dogs, and “in heat” (a biological event where a female dog is most receptive to mating) are now allowed to join.

Rubiano said that it is the responsibility of the owner to bring food and water for their dogs and clean up their pets’ mess.

She said a dog will not be allowed to join the activity once its owners violates the rule.
