CEBU CITY – Police seized more than P1-billion worth of shabu and marijuana in Central Visayas in one year.

The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) seized 164,634.50 grams of shabu and 194,172.57 grams of marijuana with a combined value of P1,142,815,308.50 from September 29 of last year to the first week of September this year.

The PRO 7 released the figures on Friday, Sept. 16, as it vowed to continue the war on drugs under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega said that upon his assumption as regional director of PRO 7, plans, programs, and policing strategies were streamlined enhance the anti-illegal drug campaign in Central Visayas.

Vega backed Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s “total, all-out war against drugs.”

“Alongside the Cebu provincial government, PRO 7 remains steadfast in the campaign against illegal drugs and strengthens its focus on prevention and education among the youth, aligning with the Chief, PNP M+K+K=K (Malaskit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan, and Kaunlaran program) mandate.”

Vega said relentless operations in the anti-criminality campaign have led to a decrease in crimes committed during the period.

During the joint council meeting of the Provincial Development Council, Peace and Order Council, Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Thursday, Sept. 15, Garcia said most crimes emanated from illegal drugs use.

She said the province has to go all-out against illegal drugs to enable Cebu to achieve an improved peace and order situation.

“I would wish to make a statement now here in the presence of all of all our chief executives and other officials from national government agencies that, here right now, Cebu declares a total, all-out war against drugs,” Garcia said during the meeting at the Capitol.

“I hope all mayors and officials of our national government agencies will join me here in this declaration of the Province of Cebu: Total, all-out war against drugs,” she added.
