Man arrested for illegal sale of 556 SIM cards in QC

Police arrested a man for the alleged illegal sale of subsciber identity module (SIM) cards in Cubao, Quezon City on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Members of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cyber Crime Group (PNP-ACG) and Globe Security and Cyber Response unit, in coordination with the National Bureau of Investigation and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), collared the suspect, Mark Deo Antang, from Camarin, Caloocan City, after he yielded 556 Globe and TM SIM cards with verified GCash accounts.

According to the police, the suspect purchases the GCash- registered SIM cards online at P350 per piece and sells them for P600.

According to Globe, the accounts, which belonged to other people, were used by scammers to hide their identities or by those who breach e-wallet limits for online gaming.

The suspect was charged for violation of Republic Act 10175 or the “Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

“As we make more arrests, we hope this sends a chilling message to other fraudsters,” the police said.

Globe said it has blocked 784 million spam and scam texts, deactivated 14,058 scam-linked mobile numbers, and blacklisted 8,973 more from January to July 2022.
