‘Malicious,’ ‘nonsensical’ raid conducted on a women’s shelter in Roxas City slammed

Women’s group Gabriela said the raid was conducted on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022. Arrested in the said raid was Lenilyn Jaynos, a community organizer of an urban poor group in Panay who was staying in a shelter in Roxas City for her medical check-ups.

Meanwhile, the shelter where the raid took place was established by women’s group Gabriela to serve as a house for women in crisis, particularly those who were victims of rights abuse.

“Centers like these are a refuge for women... It is abhorrent that in spite of billions of money being poured into government so-called intelligence funds, we find such failures of intelligence victimizing poor people such as Jaynos,” said Gabriela on Friday, Sept. 16.

Following this event, the group publicly aired its condemnation, reiterating that the national government should be held accountable and responsible for any harm that may fall on Jaynos and other women who were threatened by the incident.
