BATANES Gov. Marilou H. Cayco welcomes Milagros 'Auntie Mila' Cadiz, an indigent senior citizen, to the three-story Batanes Residential Care Center in Basco, Batanes.

Gov. Marilou H. Cayco welcomed Milagros “Auntie Mila” Cadiz, an indigent senior citizen, to the three-story Batanes Residential Care Center.

Cadiz has caregivers under the supervision of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

She is blind and lived alone in her small house in the island-municipality of Sabtang.

Cadiz was accompanied by PSWDO staff in her transfer from Sabtang to this capital town.

She had been under the caregiving program of the provincial government in the past years.

Cayco was inspired to build the first-ever assisted supervised personal care facility in this province because of the situation of Cadiz.

This home for the aged will cater to senior citizens who do not have families to rely on as with the Bahay Pag-Asa for Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL), children at risk, and even abused women and is part of the “Serbisyong Mula sa Puso” (Service from the Heart) of the provincial government.
