DSWD resumes educational aid payout in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-6 will resume distribution of cash aid for indigent students from Western Visayas on Saturday, Sept. 17, after receiving P26 million in additional funding from the main office in Quezon City.

DSWD-6 Director Carmelo Nochete and incoming DSWD-6 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Joselito Estember held on Friday, Sept. 16, an emergency meeting with team leaders and technical staff about the resumption of assessment and payout for educational assistance.

As of this week, more than 591,000 students and their parents across Western Visayas are asking for financial aid via the DSWD-6 online registration system.

Atty. May Rago-Castillo, DSWD-6 information officer, reminded that only those who are scheduled for payout on Saturday will be accommodated.

A student or parents have to get the text or e-mail confirmation before going to the distribution venue.

As of Saturday, Sept. 10, the DSWD-6 has released P101 million to 36,131 student-beneficiaries in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

On Thursday, Sept. 15, DSWD-6 announced that it can no longer give cash aid as no more funds are available.
