Taytay, Palawan Bishop Broderick Pabillo appealed to the faithful to pray for the hungry, to pray for food on every table.
The Church leader likewise urged the faithful to be more compassionate to those who are in need.
“Let us pray for all those who are suffering from hunger that they never lose hope despite their situation. Let us pray for help to come their way and for this basic human right and need for food to be addressed,” said Bishop Pabillo over Radio Veritas.
The bishop likewise requested prayers for government officials to be able to come up with initiatives and programs that would address malnutrition in the country.
“Let us all be concerned with our responsibility towards others, especially the poor and the hungry,” Bishop Pabillo stressed.
A report by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) said 95 Filipino children are at a risk of dying every day because of malnutrition.
For its part, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed a decrease in the number of Filipinos suffering from hunger from 3.1 million during the first quarter of 2022 to 2.9 million during the second quarter.
