New Clark City Triathlon to welcome 700 participants

After two years of inactivity due to Covid-19, the New Clark City Triathlon Race will make its return on Sept. 24 to 25 in Capas, Tarlac

With joint efforts from the GoClark Sports & Events, RLC Residences, and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), the triathlon race will welcome 700 participants, including foreigners, who will compete for a podium finish in the second staging of the event.

“When we organized the inaugural New Clark City Triathlon in October 2019, we were awed with the magnificent structures that were built for the 2019 SEA Games. We were tasked to test out the facilities as part of the preparation for the regional games. Then the pandemic happened, and all sporting events were put on hold. This year, we gradually put out events as we help put back sports tourism to where it was pre-pandemic,” said GoClark Sports race director Jumbo Tayag.

After receiving a thumbs up from the government, the organizers are seeking to “be back for more here in New Clark City next year.”

The 2022 New Clark City Triathlon will feature a 900-meter swim in the FINA-approved Aquatics Center followed by two laps of a 50-kilometer bike course around the New Clark Access Road with a view of the Zambales mountainscape which will end with a 12-kilometer run around the New Clark City Athletics Stadium.

Apart from the elite athletes who will be joining the competition, the event will also introduce a kids and age-group aquathlon on Sept. 24, and a shorter triathlon category of a 500-meter swim, 25-kilometer bike, and a six-kilometer run. Relay categories have also been made available for those who want to join as a team.
