The congregation revealed that on Sept. 8 their confrere was rushed to a hospital in Lipa City, where he remains confined at the intensive care unit.

“He has since slipped into coma and medical personnel are doing their best to help him recuperate,” CBCP News quoted the group's statement issued Friday.

“The Philippine Province of the Capuchin Friars Minor would appreciate your prayers for his fast recovery,” it added.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Nacua as the fourth bishop of Ilagan in 2008.

In 2017, he resigned early from the post due to health reasons at age 72. The bishop had a stroke in 2015 that affected his mobility.

Since his retirement, he had been staying at the Capuchin Retreat Center in Lipa.
