Mayor Honey pushes for extended operation of Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan on Thursday, Sept. 8, said she was pushing for the extension of operations of the Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital to benefit more Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who will contract the disease.

Lacuna, during a courtesy visit to the Manila Bulletin, said the city government had already written a letter to the National Parks Development Committee (NDPC) requesting for the extension of operations of the field hospital until such time when the national government lifts the public health emergency status in the country.

She was joined by Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto and Manila Reps. Ernesto Jr. Dionisio, Rolando Valeriano, Joel Chua, Edward Maceda, Benny Abante, and Irwin Tieng.

The mayor said most of the patients being received by the field hospital are OFWs.

“Most of our clients there are asymptomatic and mild,” Lacuna told the Manila Bulletin.

The local chief executive added that free services are also being offered in the city’s field hospital.

The facility, which was built mainly to cater to mild and moderate Covid-19 cases, has a 336-bed capacity.

It was also constructed to make space in hospitals for non-Covid patients.

The City of Manila now has less than 200 active Covid-19 cases.
