Feast of the Divino Rostro on Sept. 9; Mobile Traslacion Procession to be held this year

After skipping the tradition for two years because of the pandemic, the Archdiocese of Caceres will once again hold the traslacion and the fluvial procession in honor of the Divino Rostro (Holy Face of Jesus) and Our Lady of Penafrancia this year.

A mobile traslacion procession from the Penafrancia Shrine to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral will mark the Feast of the Divino Rostro on Friday, Sept. 9. The revered images of “Ina” and the Holy Face of Jesus will be mounted on a vehicle for the procession which signals the start of the nine-day novena in honor of Our Lady of Penafrancia.

The much-awaited fluvial procession will be held on September 17 at 3 p.m. The feast of Our Lady of Penafrancia will be observed on Sept.18. This year marks the 312th year of devotion to Our Lady.

Devotion to “Ina,” the venerated patroness of the Bicol Region, started in 1710 with the small community of Fr. Miguel Robles de Covarrubias, and has grown and became widespread and has extended even to non-Bicolanos.
