ZAMBOANGA CITY – Three members of a family were killed while four others were wounded when unidentified gunmen fired at their residence in Guiong, Sumisip, Basilan before dawn Thursday, Sept. 8.
Police sources in Sumisip said members of the Taalil family were sleeping inside their house when armed men arrived and opened fire with an M-16 rifle at around 1:30 a.m.
Two family members were immediately killed.
Four other victims were taken to the Basilan Community Hospital in Isabela City for bullet wounds.
The victims were transferred to the Zamboanga City Medical Center here where one succumbed to serious injuries.
The three others are in stable condition as of posting time.
Col. Carlos Madronio, acting Basilan police chief, has ordered a thorough investigation on the incident to identify and arrest the suspects and determine the motive.
Sumisip Mayor Julz Hataman ordered a separate probe on the incident.
