133 gambling violators nabbed in daylong operation in Negros Occidental


BACOLOD CITY - A total of 133 persons were arrested during a one-day simultaneous law enforcement operations against illegal gambling in Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

One of the arrested was an alleged gambling operator, while the rest were all bettors.

A total of 44 operations were conducted, according to Negros Occidental police, with police stations in Bago City and Victorias City having the most operations.

A card game locally known as ‘tong-its’ was the most prevalent among the types of illegal gambling subjected to police operations, followed by bookies Small Town Lottery (STL), and other forms of illegal gambling.

The operations were conducted through the mobilization of the intelligence personnel and the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) of 31 police stations and other police units in the province.

According to the provincial police office, the one-day operation was part of the ‘Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan Tungo sa Kaunlaran’ or M+K+K=K, which is a peace and security framework of Philippine National Police chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
