Elderly man dies after being struck by ambulance in Negros, grandson injured

BACOLOD CITY – An elderly man died while his grandson was injured after the E-trike they were riding was hit by an ambulance at Hacienda Layagon road, Barangay Lalagsan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Monday, Sept. 5.

The fatality was identified as Emeterio Ordas, 72, of Barangay Lalagsan, while his 12-year-old grandson (name withheld) was injured in the accident.

Police Master Sgt. Polen Jabagat, traffic investigator of La Castellana Municipal Police Station, said the victims were on their way home when a tailing ambulance driven by Jether Yutob, 44, of Isabela town, hit them.

Jabagat said Yutob allegedly did not notice the E-trike since the area was not well-lighted and a portion of the road is under repair. Jabagat added it was also raining at the time the accident happened.

Ordas was brought to a hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. His grandson suffered minor injuries.

Jabagat said the ambulance was on its way back to Isabela town after sending a patient to a hospital in La Carlota City.

Yutob is under police custody, pending the filing of an appropriate case against him.
