Diocese says heart surgery of prelate successful


The Diocese of Bayombong on Tuesday, Sept. 6 reported that Bishop Jose Elmer Mangalinao had a successful coronary angioplasty procedure.

Still, the diocese asked the faithful to continue to pray for the prelate's speedy recovery.

"Please continue to pray for him for his speedy recovery as he is still in critical but stable condition," the diocese said in a Facebook post.

"We appreciate all the well-wishers so much for showing love and prayers for our dear Bishop and wanting to visit him. Please note that we cannot accept visitors as of this time as the Bishop heals. We need him to rest and recover so he can heal fast and be able to be with us all again," it further read.

"Also, please refrain from calling the nurse’s station so that the nurses taking care of him will not be pulled away from him," the diocese said.

Mangalinao, 62, has been serving as bishop of Bayombong since 2018.

He currently chairs the Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
