No Filipinos hurt in Canada stabbing spree, says DFA


No Filipinos were reported killed or injured in the stabbing rampage in Saskatchewan, Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday, Sept. 5.

"Philippine Consul General Zaldy Patron said that no Filipino has been reported killed or injured in the stabbing attacks in Saskatchewan, Canada," the DFA said in a statement.

Canadian authorities said 10 people were stabbed to death while 15 others were injured. They are believed to have been stabbed by two suspects.

It was reported that the stabbings took place in 13 separate locations.

The leaders of James Smith Cree Nation have declared a state of emergency, following the deadly incident.

According to the DFA, the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary covers Alberta and Saskatchewan, which are home to some 209, 000 Filipinos.
