The city government of Valenzuela has received its second "Selyo ng Kahusayan sa Serbisyo Publiko" or the "Seal of Excellence in Public Service" award from the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF).
The Selyo ng Kahusayan sa Serbsiyo Publiko Antas II was given by the KWF to the city government at Diamond Hotel in Manila City on Wednesday, Aug. 31, as part of the celebration of the "Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa."
The local government was recognized for actively translating the city's public documents and information, correspondences, and advertisements.
Mr. Jonathan Balsamo, Valenzuela Cultural Affairs and Tourism Development Office head, received the award on behalf of the Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie "Wes" Gatchalian.
The KWF recognized 29 government agencies and units that have been continuously promoting the significance of the Filipino language in official transactions, communications, and correspondence.
Among the other awardees in Antas II were the cities of Parañaque and Pasay.
Valenzuela City received its first KWF Selyo ng Kahusayan sa Serbisyo Publiko Antas I in August last year.
The KWF commenced the Selyo ng Kahusayan sa Serbisyo Publiko in 2016.
The said the seal is an award given to national agencies and local government units that have complied with the mandate and implementation of Executive Order 335 signed by former President Corazon Aquino in August 1988, which urges departments, bureaus, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities of the government to take necessary action to elevate the Filipino language.
The KWF is a government agency established to conduct, coordinate, and promote research for the development, propagation, and preservation of Filipino and other languages in the Philippines. (Diann Ivy Calucin)
