DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan on Friday, Sept. 2, instructed the Bataan First District Engineering Office (DEO) to ensure the smooth mobilization of traffic during the asphalting of the 861.66-linear meter section of the BTPI Road in Barangay Sabang.

Bonaon said the BTPI is designed to become the Philippines’ center for knowledge-based industries and a potential spiritual pilgrimage destination for the international community.

According to District Engineer Erlindo Flores Jr., the P9.8-million asphalting project was carried out to repair the BTPI Road and prevent accidents and damage to vehicles entering the Bataan Technological Park.

The technological park with a 365.23-hectare zone serves as the main economic zone for the municipality of Morong. It became the Morong Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) in March 1997.

The BPTI housed the place which had been the shelter of some 400,000 refugees from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia who were given asylum through the Philippine Refugee Processing Center in the 1980s.

Here also, certain historical places of interest can be found such as the Atmanda Ecopark, Blessed Pope John Paul II Shrine, Bayon Monument, Chua Van-Hanh Monument, Khmer Monument, and The Boat People Museum.
