Bridge destroyed by ‘Florita’ in Ilocos Norte replaced


PINILI, Ilocos Norte – A 24-meter bailey bridge was built to replace the 18-meter long Purok Riverside bridge in Barangay Badio here that collapsed as a result of non-stop rains from severe tropical storm “Florita” on Aug. 22.

The temporary bridge was erected through the combined efforts of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Ilocos Norte Second District Engineering Office (DEO) under District Engineer Mathias L. Malenab, Gov. Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc, and the municipal government of Pinili, Ilocos Norte led by Mayor Rommel T. Labasan.

Engineer Alwin A. Pido, chief of the maintenance section of the DPWH Ilocos Norte Second DEO, together with staff and crew, started the assembly and installation of the bailey bridge on Aug. 25 and was completed on Aug. 27.

The bridge is accessible to light vehicles only. The replacement of the bridge will be included in the DEO’s 2023 projects.

Residents thanked the provincial government and the DPWH for the quick installation of the bridge. Travel will now be easier for them, they added.
