Mayor Aristotle Aguirre said he instructed Willie Lincallo of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) to get the agency ready for any eventuality if and when typhoon Henry makes a landfall.

Mayor Aguirre said the MDRRMO and the other concerned agencies have also readied the relief and rescue equipment while the approaching typhoon is being monitored at the modern evacuation center located in an elevated portion in Barangay Latangan.

The center has its own Department of Sciences and Technology (DOST-PAG-ASA) Synoptic station that the MDRRMO can rely on to get the real situation about the typhoon.

He added that the evacuation center has its own accommodation room infirmary, pharmacy and prayer room.

Mulanay is a first class municipality yet its 57,000 inhabitants are in peril because the town is disposed to calamity such as typhoons.

Nevertheless, the municipality has rescue equipment and experienced personnel who would take charge during calamity time.

Aguirre also announced his plan to have a Mulanay General Hospital, a level 2 public hospital which will be under the Department of Health (DOH).

For the meantime, however, he said there is a need to upgrade the present Rural Health Unit (RHU) to be supported by the national government. He also hinted at his wish to have another RHU in the town.

The said hospitals are vital in this town because numerous residents are living in far-flung villages.
