DPWH started construction of P31.7-M by-pass road in Calbayog 


The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started the construction of a by-pass road in Calbayog City that will link various primary roads to Samar's commercial proper.

DPWH Region 8 Director Allan S. Borromeo said the starting phase of the road involves the construction of a two-lane, 6.7-meter wide paved road spanning a total of 259.5 meters, 719.9-meter long riprap, and the installation of 27 solars LED lights.

The entire road project will be 1.19 kilometers long, with a 1,270-lineal meter drainage structure and 8,128 square meters of slope protection. Construction works also include a 385-meter embankment and 44 reinforced concrete pipe culverts.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the project is seen to improve the socio-economic status in Calbayog City and also help boost the tourism industry in Western Samar.

“This multi-year project will serve as the main road for locals and tourists once a portion of Daang Maharlika, which is part of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) jurisdiction is closed,” Bonoan said.

The project, he said, will connect Barangay Trinidad and Barangay Cagsalaosao to Calbayog Airport.

The by-pass road construction has funding of P31.76 million.
