The Philippine National Police (PNP) has filed a criminal case against two people tagged in the killing of 22-year old Jovelyn Galleno whose skeletal remains were found more than two weeks after she was reported missing last month.
Police Brig. Gen. Sidney Sultan Hernia said a case of rape with homicide was already filed before the Puerto Princesa City Prosecutor’s Office against two people tagged in the rape-slay of Galleno on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Galleno was last seen alive on Aug. 5 after getting out of a public transport vehicle from Robinsons Place in Barangay San Manuel in Puerto Princesa City.
On August 23, skeletal remains with garments belonging to Galleno were found near a ravine in Purok Pulang Lupa, Brgy. Sta Lourdes.
"One of the suspects, who admitted his involvement in the crime, pointed the location of skeletal remains near a ravine iwhich paved the way immediate resolution of the incident," said Hernia.
"The results of the DNA examination revealed that samples taken from the skeletal remains matched with the samples of Jovelyn Galleno’s mother," he added.
Galleno's parents have already sought assistance from the National Bureau of Investigation for further investigation of the case, a move which was welcomed by the PNP.
“We welcome the parallel investigation since we have a common goal of achieving justice. We don’t interfere in the decision of the family but we can assure that the PNP is determined to resolve the case," said Police Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, chief of the PNP-Public Information Office.
