TUGUEGARAO CITY – Cagayan Valley is preparing for tropical depression “Gardo” although the tropical cyclone is not expected to hit Northern Luzon.
The Cagayan Valley Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council held a pre-disaster risk assessment meeting Wednesday, Aug. 31, for Gardo.
Rommel Gamiao, head of the Disaster Response and Rehabilitation section, presented the preparedness plan of the department, including the status of the stockpile, prepositioned goods for local governments, and actions carried out in preparation for weather disturbance.
The Department of Welfare and Social Development-Region 2 has prepared food and non-food items.
Gamiao said Basco, Batanes has about 4,500 family food packs (FFPs) while there are 500 FFPs in Itbayat and 500 FFPs and 400 non-food items in Calayan Island in Cagayan.
The State weather bureau said these areas may be affected by Gardo.
The provincial, city, and municipal action teams and quick response teams are focused and ready to monitor the situation in different parts of the region.
