Labor group stages National Heroes’ Day protest at Liwasang Bonifacio


Members of a cause-oriented and labor group staged a protest rally at the Liwasang Bonifacio in in Manila as the country marked National Heroes’ Day on Monday, Aug. 29.

Labor group All Workers Unity (AWU) called on President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to consider Filipino workers as modern heroes and to make good on his promises especially in the agricultural sector.

Elmer Labog, a member of AWU, said the group also appeals for the suspension of the Rice Tariffication law, and end to contractualization, as well as a sustained fight against theft of public funds.

In a report from dzBB, the workers offered flowers at the statue of Andres Bonifacio, a revolutionary leader and known as the father of Philippine revolution.

The group also called on President Marcos to pay his family’s estate tax debts, the report added.

Members of the Manila Police District (MPD) Civil Disturbance Management Unit were on standby to ensure an orderly demonstration.
