Five dead, two injured as trailer truck bumps off tricycle, single motorcycle in Isabela


TUMAUINI, Isabela – Five people were killed including a six-month old baby while two others were injured in road accident involving a truck, a tricycle and a motorcycle on Saturday, Aug. 27, along the National Highway in Brgy. Balug in this town.

An investigator of Tumauini Philippine National Police disclosed that a north-bound long trailer truck driven by Oliver Zamora encroached the other lane and bumped off the approaching motorcycle and tricycle in the National Highway at around 2:30 p.m.

As a result, the tricycle driver, identified as Arnel Menor, 37, and resident of Mallig, Isabela, and three of his four passengers, namely, Ernesto Caronan, 71, of Brgy. Bliss Village, City of Ilagan, Isabela, six-month old baby, and Diana Rose Menor, 36, of Mallig, Isabela, all died.

The only other passenger of the tricycle identified as Elma Coronan, 64, also of Brgy. Bliss, sustained serious injuries and was immediately brought by responding Rescue 811 to Tamauini Community Hospital.

The driver of the single motorcycle, Kuldip Singh, 38, and resident of Brgy. District III, Tumauini, Isabela also died in the accident.

The truck driver who sustained minor injury was also brought to the same hospital.

Police said that Zamora tested positive for alcohol on the alcohol breathalyzer tester as attested by the attending physician.

The suspect is now under the custody of Tumauini PS for further investigation.
