Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte went to Iloilo province to join the city in commemorating and celebrating its 85th Charter Day.
She was joined by former president and now Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who participated in the activities spearheaded by Duterte.
Arroyo is the president emeritus of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), the party now chaired by the Vice President.
In a Facebook post, Duterte shared how she was one of the storytellers for the children in an event held at the Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Learning Resource Center and Museum.
“Kabilang ako sa mga storytellers at binasa ko kwento ng ‘The Barter of Panay’ (I was included as one of the storytellers and I read the story of The Barter of Panay),” she wrote, referring to “a local historical narrative of Panay Island being traded by the Negritos to the Borneans.”
Duterte said that she was also with the former president, who, in turn, read the “Ang Alamat ng (The Legend of) Iloilo,” a story of the history of Iloilo and how the city got its name.
“The storytelling activity was aimed at encouraging children to love reading,” according to a statement from the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
The lady official also went to Guimaras Island for the Guimaras Bamboo Summit at the Guimaras Mountain Resort this afternoon.
