GMA: Postponement of BSKE up to PBBM

ILOILO CITY – Former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria M. Arroyo said that only President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. can decide whether or not to postpone the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) elections in December.

“I am one of those who filed the bills for the postponement. But things like that always depend on the President,” Arroyo said here Thursday, Aug. 25.

“Our commitment is to support the President’s priority,” Arroyo told Iloilo media in a brief interview during a meeting with supporters led by Janette Oberio-Lloyd, Iloilo branch manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

Arroyo, House senior deputy speaker, said that bills for the postponement will still undergo approval in other levels of Congress.

The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms voted last Aug. 16 to postpone the elections.

Arroyo was one of the guests of Mayor Jerry Treñas in the 85th Charter Day of this city.

“Happy Charter Day! I am thankful to Mayor Jerry Treñas for his invitation. He was my student, you know. I am very happy to be able to be here as I have contributed to the progress of Iloilo during my presidency.”
