BLACKPINK flies to US for 2022 MTV VMAs; ‘Born Pink’ album garners 2-M pre-orders 


K-pop girl group BLACKPINK boarded their flight at Incheon International Airport on Aug. 25 to go to New York for the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

BLACKPINK will be debuting on the VMAs stage with their new song “Pink Venom,” which was released on Aug. 19.

Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé were met by the media and fans as they arrived at Incheon airport.

“We are SO excited to announce @BLACKPINK will be making their debut on the #VMAs stage!!! Catch their performance of ‘Pink Venom’ LIVE on Sunday 8/28 at 8p on @MTV!” the VMAs earlier announced on Twitter.

The VMAs will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

“We're performing at the 2022 #VMAs,” BLACKPINK posted on Twitter.

At the VMAs, BLACKPINK bagged nomination for Group of the Year while BLACKPINK the Virtual got nominated for Best Metaverse Performance. Lisa’s “Lalisa” is nominated for Best K-pop.

According to the YG blog, besides performing at the VMAs, BLACKPINK will also have promotional activities in the US.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s upcoming album “Born Pink” has reached more than two million copies in pre-orders ahead of its release on Sept. 16.

YG said BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group million seller through the first studio album “The Album” in 2020.

It said sales are increasing for “Born Pink,” which will be issued in four formats: box set, KiT, LP and digi-pack.

The music video for “Pink Venom” garnered 90.4 million views in the first 24 hours of release, according to YouTube, to place third in the top 10 all-time music video debuts.
