Passenger boat owned by Quezon mayor swept out to sea


JOMALIG, Quezon – A cargo-passenger boat owned by Mayor Nelmar Sarmiento of this island town was reportedly swept out to sea by strong waves generated by severe tropical storm “Florita” (international name “Ma-on”) here Monday, Aug. 22.

Police Lt. Roldan Gallenero, Jomalig acting police chief, said Llyod Martin Litong, secretary of the Office of the Mayor, reported that crew discovered M/V Jomalig Express missing at 8 a.m. Monday.

It was docked at the port in Barangay Talisoy unattended when it went missing.

Local police, who only learned of the incident the following day, has requested flash alarms for the police in coastal and island towns in the province for the recovery of the vessel.
