A total of 111 graduates of the Pasig City Scholarship Program (PCSP) who earned Latin honors in their respective colleges and universities for school year 2021-2022 received P20,000 to P30,000 cash incentives from the local government.
A short ceremony was held at the Tanghalang Pasigueño led by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto to recognize the efforts and contributions of the scholars.
According to the Pasig City Public Information Office (PIO), out of the 116 scholars, six summa cum laude graduates got P30,000 each.
Twenty-four magna cum laude graduates each got P25,000.
Meanwhile, 81 cum laude honorees were rewarded each with P20,000.
The cash incentive provided through the Pasig City Scholarship Office (PCSO) served to help them perform well in school.
The local government also gave allowances to the scholars and additional financial assistance for graduates taking their licensure examinations.
Pasig City Vice Mayor Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr. also graced the event, along with Councilors Corazon “Corie” Raymundo and Angelu de Leon, among others.
The PCSP is the local government’s primary educational assistance initiative that covers eligible students’ tuition in the public schools of their choice.
Scholars are also given allowances and financial aid for purchasing learning materials among other school necessities.
On Monday, Aug. 8, Sotto said there are now 23,000 city scholars for school year 2022-2023.
They are aiming for 25,000 scholars come school year 2023-2024.
Due to the reduced number of enrollees during the Covid-19 pandemic, the PCSP was also extended to include students in private schools.
