All storm signals have been lifted after severe tropical storm Florita exited the country Wednesday morning, signaling the start of the government’s assistance effort worth over P1.1 billion for the victims of the heavy rains, landslides and floods.
Six officials of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) were relieved from their posts as an offshoot of the scuttled attempt to smuggle 140,000 bags of imported sugar from Thailand through the Port of Subic.
This, as the BOC also reported the seizure of more than 466,000 bags of sugar that were believed being hoarded in a Cagayan de Oro warehouse.
Meanwhile, after the nightmare of a start to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) educational cash assistance program, the agency said it will no longer entertain walk-in recipients considered as ‘students-in-crisis’.
