SAF member arrested in Pangasinan for indiscriminate firing of gun


LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – A member of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force in Ifugao was ordered arrested on Monday, Aug. 22, for indiscriminately firing his gun.

Patrolman Rojie Ferrer, 29, PNP-SAF (Special Action Force) personnel assigned at SAF 14 SAB (Special Action Battalion), 145 SAC (Special Action Company), Ifugao was arrested on order of Police Colonel Jeff Fanged, Provincial Director of Pangasinan Police.

Fanged, who was former chief of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG), said the PNP strictly implements discipline in Pangasinan PNP personnel and that the action like that of Patrolman Ferrer will not be tolerated.

Ferrer, a resident of Brgy Duplac, Urbiztondo, Pangasinan, was arrested by Urbiztondo Police around 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, in Brgy. Malaca, Urbiztondo.

Ferrer’s indiscriminate firing of his gun came to Urbiztondo Police’s knowledge on a tip by a concerned citizen.

“Nasa covered court sya nang magpaputok ng ilang beses ng kaniyang baril,” a resident told the Urbiztondo police.

Police conducted investigation through viewing of the Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and it was found out that Patrolman Ferrer intentionally fired his issued firearm.

Patrolman Ferrer was brought to Urbiztondo Police for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, Colonel Fanged has ordered all police chiefs in the province to spearhead crime prevention and crime solutions as he vowed to focus on internal cleansing.

He noted that no PNP personnel under his watch in the province shall be involved in any illegal activities.

Fanged formally assumed the post on Aug. 19, replacing Col. Richmond Tadina who will be reassigned at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
