OWWA offers P10,000 each to distressed OFWs


The Overseas Worker Welfare Administration (OWWA) said it has distributed cash assistance to returning female overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were victims of illegal recruitment.

In a statement, OWWA said the distribution of P10,000 per OFW was done by its National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO).

NRCO Director Dindi Tan said the cash distribution is part of the he Balik Pinay! Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program created in 2011 which is aimed at enabling female OFW returnees to start and to operate livelihood undertakings for self-employment.

Eligible beneficiaries given priority to women OFWs who are displaced by hostilities and conflicts in their host country; victims of illegal recruitment and trafficking; and or distressed and displaced women household service workers.

The OWWA Welfare Region Office III on Monday, Aug. 22, released a check with P10,000 each, or a total of P250,000 cash assistance to 25 beneficiaries under the BPBH and the OWWA’s Livelihood Development Assistance Program (LDAP).

Falconi V. Millar, OWWA RWO-III regional director, said the beneficiaries were Filipina domestic workers from different host countries with different stories of hardship and difficulties in working abroad.

Millar instructed the NRCO Region 3 to help in the documentation process for the beneficiaries. (Jun Marcos Tadios)
