The Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) is closely monitoring the water level of Angat Dam due to rains spawned by severe Tropical Storm (TS) "Florita" on Tuesday, Aug.23.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando, chairman of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), said that as of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, the water level of Angat Dam was recorded at 176.34 meters, which is still below its critical level of 180 meters.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) placed Bulacan under Signal number 1 covering the towns of San Ildefonso, San Miguel, Dona Remedios Trinidad, San Rafael, Angat, and Norzagaray, and the City of San Jose Del Monte, all in the eastern part of the province.
Authorities said Bulacan should brace for TS "Florita's" strong winds with an estimated rainfall amount from moderate to heavy with maximum sustained winds of 95 km near the center, and gustiness of up 115 km per hour.
Liz Mungcal, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), said residents in flood-prone areas have already been preemptively evacuated.
Fernando said the water level of Angat Dam is expected to normalize with the expected heavy rains brought about by TS "Florita."
Angat Dam supplies over 90 percent of Metro Manila's water needs.
Fernando also said that apart from providing water supply to Metro Manila, Angat Dam also provides power generation as part of its functions under the water protocol.
