The government is as wide-eyed in anticipation as the uninitiated school child who will be attending face-to-face classes starting on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022.
Two years of the Covid-19 pandemic has kept students off schools, and the government will be anxious to see what will be the effects of a massive undertaking involving more than 27.6 million students returning to public schools nationwide.
And after a debacle on the start of the program, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) may have been able to sort out all the confusion, and has reported distributing P141 million in educational cash assistance to over 47,000 students.
Meanwhile, the purge on suspected hoarders of sugar continued after Malacanang announced the seizure of 60,000 bags of the prime commodity in a series of raids in several Bulacan warehouses.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have joined calls for the suspension of the controversial no-contact apprehension program (NCAP) for passenger jeepneys in anticipation of the huge volume of passengers due to the opening of classes.
These are among the top stories this Sunday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2022.
